This Sunday, the Los Angeles Film Festival (which actually starts tomorrow) will celebrate “Live Earth Day” by screening 50 short films as part of the SOS campaign behind the concert series.
“The selected shorts come from feature film directors, animators and documentarians among others, and include works from Madonna, Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck. The festival, which opens Thursday, will screen the films multiple times throughout the daylong event.”
Said Kevin Wall, Founder of SOS and Live Earth, “The goal of the SOS campaign and Live Earth concerts is to engage a global audience with solutions to the crisis of global warming,” said Wall. “Just like the 150 music artists who have stepped up to play the Live Earth concerts, the world filmmaking community has answered the SOS call in a big way. We are proud to present the SOS Short Films collection at the Los Angeles Film Festival and are thrilled to have such a powerful platform to share our message of urgency and hope.”

Metallica has been added to the London Live Earth concert on 07/07/07.
Immediately after their performance, an exclusive download of the set will be available for a “minimal fee.” All the proceeds from the sale of this download will be donated to the 4 climate charities that Metallica has chosen: Sierra Club The Apollo Alliance WWF Rainforest Action Network
That last one is one of my fave NGOs. Sierra Club and WWF have some issues and may not be truly charitable. The download will be available on iTunes and Metallica’s own live show download page, livemetallica.com
AND , even though Live Earth has long been sold out, Metallica must have been given some tix when they were added on at a late hour because MetClub members can find out how to purchase a ticket. See the Live Earth news on the Metallica website for more info. |

SINGAPORE: Come July 7, prepare to see TV screens hijacked by the phenomenon that is Live Earth.
The worldwide event, designed to create awareness of the hazards of climate change and made up of concerts at 11 venues on seven continents, was initiated by former United States Vice-President Al Gore.
Coverage of Live Earth will be offered continuously for 24 hours - with a break for the 9.30pm news - on MediaCorp TV Channel 5.
The broadcast will start at 7pm on July 7 and end at the same time the following day.
The round-the-clock broadcast is a first for Channel 5, which did not carry 2005's Live 8 concerts aimed at ending world poverty.
"We felt there was mounting worldwide interest in environmental concerns and Channel 5's best contribution would be our ability to help spread the message," said Joy Olby-Tan, Channel 5's vice president of programming.
And the broadcaster will be going green - literally.
In fact, the logos for all the MediaCorp channels - along with the masthead of Today newspaper - will appear in green on July 7.
The public will be urged to go green as well - Channel 5 plans to air announcements urging people to dress in that colour on the Saturday of the broadcast.
MediaCorp will also unveil eco-friendly initiatives in the month of July, in line with its commitment to furthering environmental and social causes, underscored by their signing of the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative led by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan aimed at getting businesses involved in social and environmental causes.
