Over one million people will show up to Brazil's Copacabana Beach for the Live Earth concert.
The Brazilian leg of the 24-hour, global music extravaganza is the only free concert.
The headlining acts for the event have been revealed. Rio de Janeiro will be welcoming Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell Williams, Macy Gray and more to help raise awareness of global warming.
Brazil's Tourism Secretary, Ruben Medina, added, "Rio de Janeiro reaffirms its position as an icon city in the America by supporting and being one of the host cities of Live Earth, important peace manifesto that aims to increase the conscience about global warming." |

Al Gore was initially unsure which show he would attend.
"I'm going to be wherever I can do the most good and add the most value," the former vice president told Billboard magazine in April.
Apparently he feels he is most needed in New Jersey. He will attend the Giants Stadium Live Earth concert, choosing the Meadowlands over other Live Earth locales such as London, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Sydney.
"Our worldwide control room is in London - I'll be in London, but Mr. Gore will be in New Jersey. He'll be off and on (the stage), very involved," Kevin Wall told The Star-Ledger today. Wall, who has worked on other mega benefits such as Live Aid and Live 8, is co-executive producing the event with Gore, and came up with the idea for it after seeing Gore's global-warming documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth." |

To join Snoop Dogg in Hamburg is none other than Colombian diva Shakira. The "Beautiful Liar" singer is the latest addition to Live Earth, a concert held to fight against global warming.
"Live Earth is about engaging a mass movement of people to take action against the climate crisis," Live Earth Founder and Producer Kevin Wall said. "The addition of internationally popular music acts like Shakira will help us reach millions of people across the globe." |

It was reported that the Istanbul leg of Live Earth has been cancelled due to lack of sponsors and government support. Cengiz-han Yeldan from Purple Concerts, the company organizing the event, denied these reports in a phone interview with Today's Zaman the same day, saying that while the organizers have faced financial problems, the concert will be held but there will be some slight changes to it. "The event might be smaller than we initially planned.
But it is not canceled.
The reports that appeared in newspapers today (Thursday) are not based on an official statement. I would never let such a fiasco happen. We will go ahead with our plans. We have already put a lot of investment in this task. Even if we do not have any sponsors, we will carry on with what we started and assume the rest of the costs." Yeldan added that the organizers are planning to make the concert free of charge, and that the lineup will include both international headliners and local acts. Also they will find a new venue for the event. "There are artists who've told us they will come and sing at the event even if they have to sing from a balcony." Yeldan said that official statements will be made at a later date when the details of the event become clearer |
